Ladies and gentleman,

Good Evening,

I am very pleased to have all of you to join me here this evening in celebrating the 68th Anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. On behalf of the Chinese Embassy in Grenada, I’d like to extend my congratulations and sincere greetings to the Chinese citizens working and studying in Grenada, and express heartfelt thanks to Grenada Government and people for their long concern and support to China and the development of China-Grenadianrelationship.

Ladies and Gentlemen, China is making rapid progress in development, today stand here, it is difficult to use short words to describe China's new achievements over the past few years, but even a thick-line review of it will make every one of our Chinese and Chinese friends feel encouraged and proud.

In the past few years, China has maintained a stable society, achieved sustained economic development, and people's living standard has been further improved. China’s GDP reached 11 trillion US dollars last year, contributing to global growth at more than 30%.The first half of this year, China's economy grew at the rate of 6.7%, continuing to maintain an overall smooth and steady development trend. From 2013 to 2016, number of people living in poverty was reduced by a total of 55,640,000. By 2020, China will have its poor population totally shake off poverty and the Chinese people will jointogether in a moderately prosperous society in all respects.

China's development provides many opportunities for the world; China's development is also inseparable from the development of the world. In May this year, China successfully held the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation (BRF). The two-day Belt and Road Forum had wide attendance of over 1500 officials, scholars, entrepreneurs and journalists from more than 130 countries and 70 international organizations. It marks a new type of international relations based on cooperation and it will help build a community of shared future for all humankind in search of win-win cooperation results. The success of the BRF has great repercussion for the world and brings new opportunities for international cooperation. China has made great efforts and important contributions to the successful hosting of the Belt and Road Forum, which will be conducive to the stable development of the world economy.

Ladies and gentlemen,

Since resumption of diplomatic relations 12 years ago, China and Grenada have witnessed together the comprehensive development of our bilateral relations and fruitful cooperation in all fields.

Now Grenada has become an important cooperation partner and friend of China in the Caribbean. In the past 12 years since the resumption of diplomatic ties, with the commitment and support of the leaders of both countries, our bilateral relationship has grown from strength to strength through joint endeavours of our two countries and peoples. Today China and Grenada are enjoying firm political mutual trust, fruitful practical cooperation and consolidated people-to-people exchanges.

Bilateral relations have been further consolidated through dynamic exchanges and cooperation in 2017. In July of this year, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Qin Gang paid an official visit to Grenada. He had fruitful meetings with Governor General Her Excellency Dame Cecile La Grenade, Prime Minister Dr. the Rt. Hon. Keith Mitchell and then Foreign Minister the Hon. Elvin Nimrod.The two sides exchanged views on China-Grenada relations and bilateral cooperation and explore more possibility to deepen this friendly relationship.

The Sino-Grenada economic cooperation is greatly productiveand people-to-people exchanges invigorate the friendly relation. The second phase of low-income housing project was officially launchedand the construction process is expected to start later this year. It willinvolve the construction of units in six districts across the tri-island state including Dumfries in the sister isle of Carriacou and approximately 647 Grenadians will benefit from it. A concessional loan for the upgrade of the Maurice Bishop International Airport, valued at US $66 million dollars will be loaded to Grenada, which will with no doubt improve the infrastructure in Grenada and attract more tourists to this beautiful Spice Island. The number of Chinese scholarship and bilateral and multilateral training courses provided to Grenadians marks a new record in 2017, from which more than 470Grenadians benefit. A group of faculties from TAMCC will visit China at the end of this year and another group of students, the winners of the Third Chinese Proficiency Competition 2017 will go to China next month to participate in the final global competition together with other competitors from the rest of the world.

The deep and rapid development of the friendship between China and Grenada is inseparable from the efforts and contributions of all of you. Please allow me, ladies and gentlemen, to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt gratitude to all for your longtime valuable support. China cherishes this cordial relationship and will continue to promote friendship and cooperation between us.

In closing, please join me in a toast:

To the prosperity of the People's Republic of China and Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique;

To the happiness and well-being of our peoples;

To China-Grenada friendship;

Cheers!
